L'Escale Préma-Québec is the first accommodation service dedicated to parents of premature babies in the province. It's an accommodation solution - a haven of rest - for mothers and fathers who spend weeks, even months, at the bedside of their premature child.
Prematurity is a significant and complex challenge for families. Even more so when they live far from the neonatal unit where their premature baby is being cared for. Thanks to the new L'Escale Préma-Québec accommodation service, parents with a premature baby hospitalized at Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont (HMR) can find rest just a few steps away from their little one!
L'Escale Préma-Québec is located less than 10 minutes walk from the HMR, on a quiet street in a residential area of the Rosemont district.
L'Escale Préma-Québec can accommodate up to 3 families. There are 3 bedrooms and shared common areas: kitchen, dining room, bathroom and laundry. Access to the apartment and bedrooms is via unique code locks - different codes for each occupant, valid only for the duration of the stay.
Parents can stay at L'Escale Préma-Québec from a few days to a few months (3 nights minimum). They can book a maximum of 7 nights at a time but can extend their stay as long as their premature baby is hospitalized in the neonatal unit, as long as there is availability.
To benefit from the L'Escale Préma-Québec accommodation service, you must:
* Exceptions are possible, depending on the case and availability. Parents may request a review of their file if their application for admission is refused.
The Ronald McDonald House remains the local accommodation service for parents of premature babies hospitalized in other neonatal intensive care units in Montreal, namely at the CHU Sainte-Justine, the Jewish General Hospital and the Montreal Children's Hospital.
To stay at L'Escale Préma-Québec, parents must apply for admission. It only takes a few minutes to complete the online form and receive a reply unless a particular situation requires our team to contact the family.
If the family situation meets the eligibility criteria, an admission confirmation is sent by e-mail. All you have to do is click the link in the e-mail to check accommodation availability and book overnight stays (3 nights minimum; 7 nights maximum).
No availability on the calendar? Check again in the next few days to see if a room becomes available.
Once settled in at L'Escale Préma-Québec, parents can extend their stay, subject to availability, for as long as necessary to remain at their baby's bedside.
No, this accommodation service is only for parents who have a premature baby hospitalized in the neonatal unit at Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital and who live further than 55 km from the hospital.
Parents can stay at L'Escale Préma-Québec as long as their premature baby is hospitalized in the neonatal unit, as long as there is availability.
Yes, as long as the place remains quiet and the cohabitation remains harmonious with the other parents. Each bedroom has a double bed, and bedroom 1 has a twin bed. It is also possible to bring a park/travel cot. To discuss special requirements, please get in touch with our team directly.
As the code of conduct stipulates, parents are invited to take care of the premises and assume certain household tasks. Housekeeping staff and members of the Préma-Québec team also make regular visits to ensure that the premises are clean and in good condition.
For now, L'Escale Préma-Québec is the only accommodation service the organization offers. This is a pilot project.
